With a desire to help those within the local community with their mental health, we began as a one-woman office. Genuine Way Family Therapy (GWFT) quickly grew our family-like team into three therapists: Karah, Missy, and Melissa.
Daily, we were battling for time to see clients in our downtown, one-session-room office. In May of 2021, we added our Office Coordinator, Anna, to our team and moved into a bigger space to accommodate more clients and group offerings. Today, we are located on Brackett Ave in Eau Claire and we all have our own offices to meet with our clients.
We are thankful, grateful, and honored that our clients allow us into the vulnerability of their lives which allows us to walk beside them on their journey to mental wellness and positive growth. GWFT has and will continue to provide outpatient mental health services to individuals and families, offer support and educational groups, and give back to our local community through volunteer involvement and donations.

Karah grew up in a small town in Wisconsin and always had dreams of ‘helping others.’ With a passion to assist tween/teenagers going through difficult transitions and life experiences, she pursued clinical social work, to be able to engage in a therapeutic relationship with such populations. She specializes in working with adolescents who often struggle with anxiety, family conflict, low self-confidence, unhealthy boundaries and with inappropriate communication skills.
Areas that Karah frequently focus on include: anxiety, adjustment disorders, attachment disorders, depression, communication skills, coping skills, empowerment & self-concept, family concerns, life transitions, trauma, grief, and loss.
She currently resides in the Eau Claire area with her husband and son. She enjoys the beauty in sunrises and the non-winter Wisconsin months!

Missy lives in Eau Claire with her husband and four children. She attended UW-Eau Claire where she obtained a Bachelor of Social Work degree with a double major in psychology and social work. She became a Certified Social Worker in 2011 and began practicing in the child welfare system. Missy obtained her Master’s of Social Work degree from University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2013.
Her career has been in child welfare serving children and families with significant trauma, abuse and neglect. She is interested in continuing to work with individuals who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) and parents who are involved in the child welfare system. She has experience with mental health crisis, and works with children, teenagers, and adults struggling with an array of issues including depression, anxiety, errors in thinking, coping skills, family issues, and ADHD.
As someone who strives to prevent child abuse, neglect, and trauma, perinatal mental health is very important to Missy. Perinatal mood disorders are the most under-diagnosed complication of child birth and can lead to negative outcomes for both the mom and her baby. Missy is excited to work with all moms who maybe don’t feel right in their new role or do not feel joy with the demands of motherhood. She's happy to help moms with their mental health, before, during, and after pregnancy.
